About Us
What Is Ananda?
Ananda is a global spiritual movement, based on the teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda, who showed how everyone can realize God in their daily lives as a tangible, loving reality.

Swami Kriyananda and Paramhansa Yogananda
Ananda, meaning “joy” in Sanskrit, was founded by Swami Kriyananda (1926–2013), a direct disciple of the great master Paramhansa Yogananda to manifest his guru’s vision of World Brotherhood Colonies: a place for spiritual seekers to dedicate their lives to God.
At the heart of Ananda is daily meditation, which brings harmony, peace, and a deeper attunement with the Divine into our everyday lives. We are dedicated to the spiritual growth of each individual, and are committed to living in alignment with dharma (right action).
Our purpose is to bring God into all aspects of life and to support others by sharing the practical and uplifting teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda, offering tools for living with greater joy and fulfillment.
Swami Kriyananda’s spiritual successor, Nayaswami Jyotish, and his spouse, Nayaswami Devi, together serve as Ananda’s Spiritual Directors. You can attend live classes with Nayaswami Jyotish and Nayaswami Devi online or in person.
All Are Welcome
Ananda helps people achieve Self-realization, a state of consciousness that comes through shedding all outward self-definitions. Ananda’s communities and centers welcome all sincere seekers, regardless of color, race, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, or different ability. We are committed to providing an inclusive, welcoming environment for everyone to pursue their search for God. Please see more about the Ananda Diversity & Inclusion Council.
Find Ananda near you. You are invited to visit our temples, yoga retreats, meditation groups, and communities to experience the joy of your own being.
